Rubella

Is rubella worse than usual anywhere?

Too little to compare in any country this week.

What is rubella?

A virus infection that spreads very easily. It is usually mild, but it is dangerous for unborn babies.

Signs
Mild fever, a rash that often starts on the face and neck, and swollen glands behind the ears and in the neck. Some adults get sore joints.
How it spreads
Through droplets in the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It spreads most in the days after the rash appears.
How to protect yourself
Vaccination: one dose gives strong, long-lasting protection. It is often given with measles vaccine (MR or MMR).
Get medical help
A pregnant woman who gets a rash or meets someone with rubella should see a health worker. Early in pregnancy it can cause miscarriage or birth defects.
