Is skin leishmaniasis worse than usual in Khyber?

Dooram can't tell yet. Too few of Khyber's clinics reported in the same weeks of the last two years.

108 cases reported in week 39, when 79% of its clinics sent a report.

"Usual" is the same four weeks of the two years before. In 4 of those 8 weeks, fewer than half of Khyber's clinics sent a report, so the cases they show are not Khyber's usual, only how little was reported. Dooram leaves out any week when fewer than half the clinics reported, and here too few weeks are left to compare.

Not compared. Each district is compared with its own usual, and Khyber cannot be this time.

What is skin leishmaniasis?

A skin disease caused by tiny parasites called Leishmania. It is the most common form of leishmaniasis.

Signs
Sores, mostly open ulcers, on uncovered skin such as the face, arms and legs. They can leave scars for life.
How it spreads
Through the bite of an infected female sandfly, a very small biting insect. Animals and people can carry the parasite.
How to protect yourself
Avoid sandfly bites: use insecticide-treated nets, insecticide spraying and personal protection. Finding and treating cases early also helps.
Get medical help
See a health worker about any skin sore that does not heal, especially after sandfly bites. Early diagnosis and treatment are important.
