Is suspected cholera worse than usual in Musakhel?

Dooram can't tell yet. Too few of Musakhel's clinics reported in the same weeks of the last two years.

5.0 cases reported in week 39, when 90% of its clinics sent a report.

"Usual" is the same four weeks of the two years before. In 5 of those 8 weeks, fewer than half of Musakhel's clinics sent a report, so the cases they show are not Musakhel's usual, only how little was reported. Dooram leaves out any week when fewer than half the clinics reported, and here too few weeks are left to compare.

What is suspected cholera?

A gut infection caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae, caught from dirty food or water. It can kill within hours if not treated.

Signs
Sudden, heavy, watery diarrhoea that dries the body out fast. Many infected people have no signs or only mild illness.
How it spreads
Through food or water dirtied by an infected person's faeces. It spreads most where clean water and toilets are lacking.
How to protect yourself
Drink safe water, use toilets and wash hands with soap. A cholera vaccine taken by mouth also helps protect people.
Get medical help
Start oral rehydration solution (ORS) at once and go to a clinic for heavy watery diarrhoea. Quick treatment saves lives.
